Swim Pace Calculator

Work out your swim pace per 100 meters and per 100 yards from a distance and time — the standard way swimmers measure speed. Presets cover the common pool and open-water distances.

How Swim Pace Works

Swimmers measure pace as time per 100 meters or per 100 yards, not minutes per kilometer like runners. It’s the number you’ll see on a pool clock and in training sets:

Pace per 100 = Total time ÷ Distance × 100

A 1,500 m swim in 30:00 is a pace of 2:00 per 100 m.

Meters vs. Yards Pools

A 25-yard pool is common in the US, while most of the world uses 25 m or 50 m pools. Because a yard is shorter than a meter, your per-100-yard time will always be a little faster than your per-100-meter time for the same effort — this calculator shows both so you can compare sessions across pools.

Common Swim Distances

  • Sprint: 50–100 m
  • Pool mile: 1,650 yd (US) / 1,500 m (Olympic)
  • Open-water: 1.5 km (Olympic tri), 1.9 km (70.3), 3.8 km (Ironman)
