Pace Calculator
Work out your running pace, speed and finish time for any distance. Enter any two of distance, time and pace — this calculator fills in the third and shows your speed in km/h and mph.
How to Use the Pace Calculator
- Enter your distance — type a number and pick km, miles or meters, or tap a race preset.
- Enter your time — hours, minutes and seconds.
- Read your pace — minutes per kilometer and per mile, plus speed in km/h and mph.
Pace vs. Speed
Pace is how long it takes to cover one unit of distance (e.g. 5:30 per km). Speed is how much distance you cover per unit of time (e.g. 10.9 km/h). Runners usually think in pace; cyclists and drivers think in speed. To convert:
- Speed (km/h) = 60 ÷ pace-in-minutes-per-km
- Pace (min/km) = 60 ÷ speed-in-km/h
Common Race Finish Times
| Pace /km | 5K | 10K | Half | Marathon |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4:00 | 20:00 | 40:00 | 1:24:23 | 2:48:46 |
| 5:00 | 25:00 | 50:00 | 1:45:29 | 3:30:59 |
| 6:00 | 30:00 | 1:00:00 | 2:06:35 | 4:13:10 |
| 7:00 | 35:00 | 1:10:00 | 2:27:41 | 4:55:22 |
Plan the Route Behind the Pace
A pace figure only matters once you know the exact distance you’re running. Measure your real route — including every bend and hill — with the running route planner or map my run tool, then bring the distance back here to nail your target time. For trail and hill efforts, check the elevation profile too — climbing slows pace far more than flat ground.
